Hagi Farewell Match: Romania XI 2 - World XI 2

BUCHAREST, 4.24.01 - In his farewell tribute match, the "Maradona of the Carpathians", Georghe Hagi lead his national Romanian team to a 2-2 draw against a team of World XI all-stars at Lia Manoliu Stadium. Hagi set up both goals for his team during the contest.

Hagi, 36, was awarded the Romanian Player of the Century. He lead Romania to the World Cup quarter-finals in 1994 and ignited a passion for the team among his countrymen. In 125 matches for Romania he scored 35 goals. Most recently he lead the Turkish club Galatasaray to the 2000 UEFA Cup over Arsenal.
