10.5.07
Brazilian
star and AC Milan forward Kaka was named FIFPro World Player
of the Year after leading AC Milan to their seventh European
Cup win in May. He scored 10 goals through the season including
three in AC Milan's victory over Manchester United in the
semi-finals.
This
award is particularly prestigious because it's voted on by
his peers throughout the world. 45,000 plus pro soccer players
and members of the players' union FIFPro voted him as the
best player in the world for the 2006-2007.
Kaka
follows in the footsteps of his countryman, Ronaldinho, who
has been honored with same award the previous two years. Kaka
was quoted as saying, "I am humbled to receive such an honor. To
follow my good friend and such a great player as Ronaldinho
makes this a very special award for me. To be recognized by
my fellow professional players worldwide is amazing."
