GARRINCHA (Manoel Francisco Dos Santos), Brazil Pau Grande, Botafogo, Corinthians Atletico Junior Barranquilla (Columbia) Flemengo, Bangu, Red Star Paris (FRA) Portuguesa, Olaria 1955-1973
The "LIttle Bird" held the right wing position for the great Brazilian World Cup Championship team of 1958 and 1962. His speed and ability to finish make him one of the greatest wingers of all time. And the great surprise in all of this is that a childhood illness left him nearly lame; even after corrective surgery, the expectations were it would be a miracle if he could walk again. His soccer achievements were no less spectacular. He had the fleet skills to carry the team, even when it lost the phenomena Pele to injury in the 1962 World Cup. He struck twice against England in the quarters and twice again in the semis against host Chile. Among so many great players on such great teams, he blended in perfectly.
