Denis Law, SCOTLAND Huddersfield, Manchester City Torino, Manchester United 1957-66
Denis
Law shot to the top of European soccer at a very young age.
A prolific scorer, Denis Law, a.k.a. "the King", began his
career at the young age of 16 with Huddersfield. At 18 he
scored in his Scotland debut,. He made a then record salary
with Manchester City of £55,000 by the time he was 20.
In one game scored an unbelievable 6 goals vs. Luton that
all went for naught when the game was cancelled. Word of scoring
prowess spread however and he was soon signed by Torino, Italy,
where despite an abbreviated stay due to a car crash, he scored
10 goals in 27 matches. It was during his return to Manchester
though that his career began to peak. Two league titles and
the 1963 FA Cup, and 1964 European Footballer of the Year.
During the fabulous 60's renaissance of British football,
many consider him the greatest of that era, ranking above
Charlton and Best.
