DIDI (Waldyr Pereira) FC Rio Branco, FC Lencoes Maduereiro, Fluminese Botafogo, Real Madrid (Spain) 1949-1966
One of the great ball-handlers of all-time, Didi was known for his shooting and passing perfection. A prolific goal scorer even at the midfield position, he perfected the "dead leaf" free kick. A terrific midfield director, he scored 31 goals in 85 appearances for Brazil and lead them to the World Cup in 1958 and 1962. In 1958 during the World Cup, when Brazil unveiled its 4-2-4 system, Didi's footwork was instrumental in the team's success. He is the prototype midfield captain who made everyone who played around even better.
